Amherst CDBG Hearing Nov 18th

PUBLIC HEARING

The Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC) has designated the Town of Amherst a Mini-Entitlement Community that is eligible to apply for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.  CDBG funds support housing, community development projects and social service activities benefiting low-and moderate-income citizens.  In accordance with State regulations, Amherst’s CDBG Advisory Committee will hold a Public Hearing on Monday, November 18, 2024 at 7pm to receive comments and suggestions regarding:

 

  1. Current activities from the 2022/23 Grant:

    1. Social Services—Survival Center Food Pantry, Center for New Americans ESOL classes, Big Brothers Big Sisters Youth Mentoring, Family Outreach Housing Support Program, Craig’s Doors Sheltering

    2. Valley CDC Micro-enterprise Assistance Program

    3. Town of Amherst public infrastructure improvements—Belchertown Road and old South East Street

  2. Community priorities for the 2025 application process

    1. Social services

    2. Non-social services such as housing and public infrastructure

    3. Target areas where non-social services can take place

    4. Community Development Strategy

  3. Outcomes and effectiveness of the CDBG program

    1. Public outreach process and community priorities

 

PUBLIC MEETING

  1. Announcements

  2. Discuss and review comments from public hearing

  3. Public Comment

  4. Other items not anticipated within 48 hours

Any person or organization wishing to be heard will be afforded an opportunity.  Reasonable accommodations such as language translations services can be provided if requested 7 days before the meeting via a written request to the Town Manager’s Office.
